Small Red beans have a slightly mild sweet taste and firm texture and holds its shape well. Popular in Mexican dishes such as refried beans and chile and in Louisiana they are used to make the classic red beans and rice.

Small Red Beans are also known as Habichuelas and Habas Pequenos Colorados. This is a bush bean rather than a vine bean. This is the bean which is famous in the Southern dish Red Beans and Rice.

Recommended Preparation Instructions:

Soak overnight before cooking. This bean has a fragile skin which will break open if the bean is boiled too hard, so simmer gently. Small red Beans will cook in about 45 minutes. One cup dry yields 2-2/3 cups cooked.
