Chiles

PEQUIN

PEQUIN

Description:

These small oval-shaped Chiles provide an intense and short-lived heat that is more intense than that of Jalapenos.  Pequin , also known as “bird pepper” is commonly used as a spice because of its tiny size, this chile measures ½ inch in length and only ¼ inch wide!  These small, oval shaped chiles with tapered ends mature to a rich orange-red color.  They often grow wild in the mountains of Mexico.  The flavor is hot and smoky with sweet, citrus undertones.  Commonly used in pickles, salsas, sauces, soups, and vinegars.  Scoville heat units are 40,000 - 50,000.

Suggested Use:

Pequin Chiles are very hot! A little goes a long way. Use Pequin Chiles to heat up Pasta Diablo, with shrimp or lobster added. If you love hot chili, salsa and stews, this is the chile for you.
