CORN HUSKS

CORN HUSKS

Description:

Corn Husks are the dried outer sheaths that surround each ear of corn.  Used for craft items as well as in the kitchen, Corn Husks are predominately used as a wrapper for foods that will be steam cooked.  Thin and papery, Corn Husks are the most commonly used tamale wrapper.  The use of Corn Husks as a food wrapper dates back to the Aztecs.  Husks must be soaked in hot water for 30 minutes and dried prior to wrapping food. 120-150 husks for tamales in a 1.5-pound case.

Suggested Use:

Corn Husks are commonly used to wrap tamales.  They also solve the issue of trying to hold together delicate foods that will be cooked on a grill.  Fragile fish fillets, vegetables or fajita pockets are some of the items that you can wrap in Corn Husks. When wrapping foods in Corn Husks, make sure you have enough space to completely wrap the food item.  Lay out the Corn Husks in layers, this will provide an area large enough to go all the way around.  This layering will help you keep the husks together.  Start wrapping with the top layer husk and work your way to the bottom husk so that each piece holds the next one in place.
