DATES, DICED
Description:
Deglet Dates, also known as "fingers of light", grow in thick clusters on the giant date palm. Dates have long been a common food item in the Middle East, originating as a cultivated crop over 5000 years ago. Dates require a hot, dry climate and currently are grown in the U.S. Spanish missionaries introduced Dates to California in the 1700's. Most varieties are oval in shape with flesh that is cloyingly sweet. These diced Deglet dates are approximately 1/4 inch in size. Deglet Dates are an economical alternative to the more costly Medjool variety. Dates contain no cholesterol and are considered a good source of fiber.
Suggested Use:
Use Deglet Dates as a snack or in desserts and baked goods. A rich addition to muffins, cookies or scones. For an elegant treat, dip Dates in chocolate and roll in nuts or coconut.
