CHERRIES, RAINIER

CHERRIES, RAINIER

Description:

This delicate cherry is one of the sweetest and most pampered of cherries!  Rainier Cherries are a hybrid, a cross between the Bing and Van cultivars, two of the sweeter varieties that have persisted through cultivation.  Considered the “cream of the crop”, they are appreciated for their creamy-yellow flesh, blush colored skin and succulent sweetness.  Rainier Cherries are sweeter than Bing Cherries and sell at a higher price due to their delicate cultivation.  Extreme heat, windy weather and excessive rain can easily damage the Rainier Cherry crop, killing the cherries, bruising their skin or causing them to burst. Dried Rainier Cherries are dark purple-black to red and about 3/4 to 1 inch in length.  These tasty morsels can be added to ice cream, pudding, cakes, salads, and salsa or served with meat.

Suggested Use:
Rainier Cherries may be added to pancake and waffle batters, sprinkled on top of cheesecake or added to cookies for a burst of sweet cherry flavor.  For a unique soup, use Rainier Cherries with sour cream and spices; include some wine or apple juice!  Soak Rainier Cherries in liqueur or vodka and use to top fruit sorbets or perk up salads and compotes.
