PADDY STRAW
Description:
Paddy Straw mushrooms are cultivated on rice straw in South Asia and are an indispensable ingredient in many Asian dishes. Straw mushrooms are so named because they are grown in straw used in a paddy. This growing method contributes to this mushrooms distinct flavor. Straw mushrooms range in color from light tan when young to dark gray when mature. Their bite-size shape makes them easy to prepare and are frequently found enhancing recipes such as stir-fry, chop suey, and chow mein. Generally not available fresh outside of Asia, this cultivated mushroom can be used in soups, sauces or even skewered with vegetables and meat chunks. Known also as Grass mushrooms, Straw mushrooms rank third worldwide in consumption.
Suggested Use:
Paddy Straw Mushrooms are often found in recipes from Southern China and are a versatile protein source for vegetarian entrees. Delicious as a garnish or in salads, soups, stews, egg or tofu dishes.
