MORELS, (OG)

Description:

For mushroom lovers, just the mention of Morels brings visions of rich and savory, palate pleasing dishes to mind.  One of the most sought after mushrooms, Morels belong to the same fungus species as the Truffle.  Distinguished by their conical sponge-like, honeycomb caps they portray a wonderful woodsy flavor that has been described as buttery, nutty, smoky and earthy.  Typically, morels range from 3/4 of an inch to 4 inches in height with a cream colored base and a dark cap. Morels are delicious with wild game, beef, poultry and seafood.  Tasty with aromatic vegetables in rich sauces, they are a very versatile fungus.  Typically found in the Pacific Northwest, morels inspire an early spring pilgrimage in a search for this rare and delectable treat. It is commonly believed that Morels arrive within 20 days after the first spring frost. Hunters of the treasured Morel Mushroom rarely reveal their harvesting locations and if harvesting sites are not picked clean the mushrooms will return the following spring!  Dried Morels are very flavorful with a more intense flavor than fresh ones do with the advantage of being available year round.  This product is Organic.

Suggested Use:
Dried Morels need no embellishment, just sauté in butter to enjoy their hearty flavor.  Morels are easy to implement in your favorite recipe, stuff them, add to pasta, white sauces, cream soups, pilaf, stir-fry and stews and egg dishes.  Toss with vegetables or mix with stuffing for poultry and wild game.  Partner Morels with grilled and roasted foods for an exquisite dish.

Substitutes:  Shiitake or Chanterelles
