Truffles
TRUFFLE, BLACK, SLICED, WINTER
Description:
D'allasandro sliced Black Winter Truffle is truly a culinary delicacy. Called the "Black Diamond" of France, the Black Winter Truffle is packed in an all natural, extra virgin olive oil infused with fresh Truffle aroma. They are never from the second boiling of Truffles or frozen. Use sparingly since only a small amount is needed to add an earthy Truffle flavor to any dish. Black Truffles are fungi (tuber) that grow underground. Truffles form symbiotic relationships with some varieties of deciduous trees, including oak, beech, hazel and poplar, but cannot be found on maples or cedars. Sought out by specially trained dogs (hogs were used most often in the past) with their keen sense of smell, Truffles look like what their Latin term implies, a tuber or "lump". The Black Winter Truffle is grayish-black in color. Thought to be an aphrodisiac by some they are extremely popular in International cuisine.
Suggested Use:
Soups, pate, French toast and Truffles, Truffles and ham, potato and Truffle fritters, scrambled eggs with Truffles, Sea Bass with leeks, potatoes and Truffles, Sturgeon cheek salad with Truffle butter and fennel, Truffle sandwiches, Truffle vinaigrette and Truffles with cabbage are just a few ways to prepare this honored tuber.
