Description:
Sage is the silver-gray colored leaves of an evergreen shrub of the mint family. Highly aromatic with a slight peppery flavor and piney undertones, Sage is native to the mediterranean area. Sage can be used in various forms and is common in Italian, French, Middle Eastern and American cuisine. Sage is available as whole leaves, rubbed (leaves are crumbled) or in ground form. Sage is a highly valued herb used by the ancient Romans for both cooking as well as medicinally. A tea made for the leaves of Sage may provide healing relief from throat ailments. One of the primary seasonings in stuffing, Sage may also be used in vegetable soups, sauces, on roast pork, in sausage dishes and it may be sauteed in olive oil and butter then tossed with cooked pasta.
Use Sage to flavor various meat dishes including sausage, veal, poultry casseroles, stuffing for turkey and pheasant. ; Sage is a delicious addition to roasted potatoes, broiled vegetables such as eggplant and mushrooms.
