Bring the flavors of the Caribbean to life with this exquisite blend of Jerk Seasoning. Chieftain’s Jerk Seasoning contains sea salt, chopped onion, soybean oil, sugar, paprika, thyme, ground allspice, ground cloves, crushed red pepper and ground nutmeg. Jerk is the process of spicing and grilling meats, poultry, and even vegetables, although the most popular are pork and chicken. Originally used by the natives of Jamaica to preserve meats in the island heat, these spices also made them taste delicious when cooked over an open fire. Jerk Seasoning may be used by rubbing onto meats, some prefer to sear the meat first and then apply the Jerk Seasoning and progressively slow cook the meat until done. To enhance the flavor you may apply the Jerk Seasoning, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 20 minutes then remove wrap and cook. The added time allows the flavor of the Jerk Seasoning to absorb into the meat.
