ANISE SEED
Description:
Anise is the dried ripe fruit of the herb Pimpinella Anisum that is related to dill, fennel and caraway. Anise has oval, bold seeds with a firm surface. Anise's flavor resembles that of Fennel seed but is somewhat sweeter and has a strong licorice-like flavor. Middle East, Portuguese, German, Italian, and French cuisines use Anise to enhance their dishes. A good source of Iron, Anise seeds can be chewed after meals to freshen the breath and aid in digestion. Many commercial cough syrups and sore throat medications contain Anise to improve flavor
Suggested Use:
Anise Seed can be used whole or crushed in recipes. Roasting can enhance the flavor of the seeds. You can add Anise Seed to poaching water for fish, shellfish and other boiled entrees. Try Anise Seeds in soups, stews, curries, fruit cobblers, pies, breads, cakes and cookies or mix with Ginger and use as a marinade for meats. Orange Anise seed scones, shrimp with Anise cream sauce, Anise cookies and candy and Anise poached chicken are a few recipes you can make with this versatile seed.
