CELERY SEED
Description:
Celery Seeds originate from the head of the celery plant. Celery Seeds are very tiny, dark tan to dark brown and have a strong Celery-like aroma. Dating from the 17th century, Celery was developed from wild Celery that was found in the salt marshes of Europe. Used in ancient times for medicinal purposes, Celery Seed was thought to be an aphrodisiac, today, Celery Seed is know for its diuretic properties that assist in relieving fluid retention. Celery Seed can be used as a flavoring or spice as whole seeds, or ground and mixed with other spices to make rubs for meats before grilling and can be added to salt to enhance the flavor of Bloody Mary cocktails. Celery Seeds should be used sparingly.
Suggested Use:
Celery Seed can be sprinkled on salads or cooked vegetables or used to add a savory flavor to soups and stews. Celery Seed is used in pickling, salad dressings, breads, curry spice blends and sauces. Southern cucumber and onion salad, spinach salad with strawberrys, spicy peanut bbq sauces, carrot and cranberry salad, mustard pickles and spicy baked beets are just a few foods you can prepare with Celery Seeds.
