In a medium bowl, toss together the cheese and flour, set aside. In a small saucepan sauté onion in butter or margarine over medium heat until onion is tender. Add the chicken broth, beer, cooked rice, pepper and half of the apple. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, uncovered for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to low, very slowly stir in cheese until melted. Stir in Half and Half and heat thoroughly. Garnish with remaining chopped apple or sprinkle with small amount of shredded cheese and serve.
